Bio

Sandy McDonald earned her teaching credentials from the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Ashram in California in 2003. Sandy has taught more than 6000 classes since leaving the ashram and returning to the city. Sandy's style of teaching is very compassionate, focused on creating a non-competitive environment.  Sandy is inspired by the classical yogic teachings; she will modify poses to suit the modern yogi. She has an intuitive nature and is able to perceive the students needs by observing each of them. She believes the student and the yoga poses are the real teacher, she just creates the space.

Why donation only?

Dāna is generosity or giving, it is also the practice of cultivating generosity.  The perfection of giving can be characterized by unattached and unconditional generosity, giving and letting go. Dāna has the effect of purifying and transforming the mind of the giver. A teachers practice is to give without seeking anything in return; this helps the teacher lead to a greater spiritual wealth.
The community may give Dana in extending one's generosity in gratitude for the teaching and for the livelihood of the teacher. The act of Dana also acknowledges that some things are priceless and meant to be available to all.
